چکیده

Examples of progress in fabricating branched multi-terminal multi-wall and single-wall carbon nanotube junctions as predicted by nanotechnology simulations, using template growth and nanowelding techniques, respectively, have been briefly reviewed in this report. It is argued that similar general progress in computational nanotechnologydriven fabrication of applications in other nanomaterials such as nanotubes, fullerenes, nanowires, quantum dots, DNA molecules, and nanoparticle-based systems and devices are also feasible. This is because, at nanometer length scale, system sizes have shrunk sufficiently small such that it is feasible to simulate the structural, stability, and physical and chemical characteristics with very high accuracy predictive simulations.

Phonon scattering at SWCNT–SWCNT junctions in branched carbon nanotube networks

In this research article, we analyze phonon scattering in branched single-walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) networks with SWCNT–SWCNT Tand Xjunctions using the wave packet method. Five phonon branches including the longitudinal acoustic, twisting, transverse acoustic, radial breathing, and flexural optical modes are selected to study energy reflection, ramification, and transmission through Tand X...

Transport through crossed nanotubes

In order to study the electronic properties of single-walled carbon nanotube junctions we have fabricated several devices consisting of two crossed nanotubes with electrical leads attached to each end of each nanotube. We correlate the properties of the junctions with the properties of the individual nanotubes: metal–metal, metal–semiconductor, and semiconductor– semiconductor junctions are all...

Force- and light-controlled electrical transport characteristics of carbon nanotube 1D/2D bulk junctions

Pure carbon bulk junctions are fabricated based on carbon nanotube (CNT) macrostructures and their electrical transport characteristics are investigated. The planar 1D/2D strand-on-film (SOF) junctions show interesting forceand light-controlled transport behaviors. Considering the excellent chemical stability and good mechanical properties (strength, hardness and elasticity) of CNTs, the SOF ju...

Increasing the hydrogen storage capacity of single-walled carbon nanotube (SWNT) through facile impregnation by TiO2, ZrO2 and ZnO nanocatalysts

Various nanocomposites of TiO2, ZnO and ZrO2 decorated single wall Carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) were fabricated by facile and template free continuous ultrasonication/stirring of virgin metal oxide nanopowders and SWNTs in ethanol under UV-light illumination. The TEM micrographs showed that nanoparticles (NPs) were uniformly dispersed and bonded on the surface of SWNTs. The results of XRD as well a...

Radial Breathing Mode Frequency of Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotube Via Multiple-Elastic Thin Shell Theory

In this paper, the radial breathing mode (RBM) frequencies of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) are  obtained based on the multiple-elastic thin shell model. For this purpose, MWCNT is considered as a multiple concentric elastic thin cylindrical shells, which are coupled through van der Waals (vdW) forces between two adjacent tubes. Lennard-Jones potential is used to calculate the vdW ...
